Cuando baj\u00e9 del avi\u00f3n en Nueva Zelanda, no sab\u00eda muy bien qu\u00e9 esperar. S\u00f3lo sab\u00eda que necesitaba escapar por un tiempo de las prisas, el ruido y la implacable marcha del tiempo. Incluso en los primeros d\u00edas, sent\u00ed que el tiempo flu\u00eda de forma diferente aqu\u00ed. Era como si los \u00e1rboles me susurraran que fuera m\u00e1s despacio, como si el viento me trajera palabras que a\u00fan no entend\u00eda, pero que de alg\u00fan modo me resultaban familiares.<\/p>

Una ma\u00f1ana, mientras paseaba por el lago Taupo, me encontr\u00e9 con un anciano maor\u00ed llamado Rangi. Estaba sentado bajo un enorme \u00e1rbol pohutukawa, contemplando el agua en calma. Sonri\u00f3 y me hizo un gesto para que me uniera a \u00e9l. No hablaba mucho, pero su presencia transmit\u00eda una fuerza que no hab\u00eda sentido en mi vida en mucho tiempo.
\"Aqu\u00ed, escuchamos a la tierra,\"<\/strong> dijo en voz baja. \"No caminas sobre ella como un turista. Si abres tu coraz\u00f3n, \u00e9l te guiar\u00e1\".<\/strong><\/p>

Me qued\u00e9 con Rangi unos d\u00edas. Me ense\u00f1\u00f3 a reconocer el canto de los p\u00e1jaros, a recoger plantas curativas, a sentir las historias ocultas en el r\u00edo, las piedras, la niebla. Pero, sobre todo, me ense\u00f1\u00f3 a volver a estar en silencio dentro de m\u00ed. Y en ese silencio, o\u00ed mi propia voz, la que hab\u00eda perdido en el ruido del mundo.
Cuando me iba, Rangi me entreg\u00f3 una peque\u00f1a piedra: lisa, verde, grabada con la hoja de un \u00e1rbol conocido en la cultura maor\u00ed por su fuerza, sus cualidades curativas y protectoras...
\"Esto es pounamu,\"<\/strong> dijo. \"Piedra verde\". No para la suerte. Sino para que no se te olvide\".<\/strong>
Todav\u00eda lo llevo hoy. No es por suerte.
