Quando sono scesa dall'aereo in Nuova Zelanda, non sapevo bene cosa aspettarmi. Sapevo solo che avevo bisogno di fuggire per un po', dalla fretta, dal rumore, dalla marcia inesorabile del tempo. Gi\u00e0 nei primi giorni ho percepito che qui il tempo scorreva in modo diverso. Era come se gli alberi mi sussurrassero di rallentare, come se il vento portasse parole che non capivo ancora, ma che in qualche modo mi sembravano familiari.<\/p>

Una mattina, durante un'escursione intorno al lago Taupo, ho incontrato un uomo anziano, un M\u0101ori di nome Rangi. Era seduto sotto un enorme albero di pohutukawa e guardava l'acqua immobile. Mi ha sorriso e mi ha fatto cenno di raggiungerlo. Non disse molto, ma la sua presenza trasmetteva una forza che non sentivo da tempo nella mia vita.
\"Qui ascoltiamo la terra\".<\/strong> disse a bassa voce. \"Non si cammina su di essa come un turista. Se apri il tuo cuore, sar\u00e0 lui a guidarti\".<\/strong><\/p>

Sono rimasta con Rangi per alcuni giorni. Mi ha insegnato a riconoscere il canto degli uccelli, a raccogliere le piante curative, a sentire le storie nascoste nel fiume, nelle pietre, nella nebbia. Ma soprattutto mi ha insegnato a fare di nuovo silenzio dentro di me. E in quel silenzio ho sentito la mia voce, quella che avevo perso nel rumore del mondo.
Quando me ne andai, Rangi mi porse una piccola pietra - liscia, verde, con incisa la foglia di un albero noto nella cultura M\u0101ori per le sue qualit\u00e0 di forza, guarigione e protezione...
